TikTok, YouTube, brand invoices, affiliate links, Substack, Patreon. Payouts land on different days, in different amounts, sometimes in different currencies. No single place shows the whole picture.
Gifted PR counts
When a brand sends product and expects content in return, that product has a market value. HMRC treats it as income. Most creators have never been told this.
The rules changed
Making Tax Digital began in April 2026. Sole traders over the threshold now keep digital records and send HMRC a summary every quarter. Paper and manual spreadsheets no longer comply.

03 · For UK creators
The first Making Tax Digital deadline is 7 August 2026.
If you earn from content and your gross income passed £50,000 in 2024/25, your first quarterly update is due by 7 August. The guide tells you whether that is you, and what to do about it. The check takes about 90 seconds.
